Was that a game, or what? I can't even express how fantastic the game was to watch. It did affirm something great about football: on any given Sunday, any team can win.
I was incredibly happy with the outcome (as you can see from Sam's picture last night), because I can't stand the Patriots. They seem like such a cold, merciless team. (I'll say this: I don't think Junior Seau belongs on that team. He's too passionate.) And the way they win, it's ugly. Belichick might be a good coach, but frankly, he seems like an asshole. Whatever the extent of the cheating by that team, the fact remains that there was something illegal (by the standards of the league, of course) going on, and it's pretty despicable. And I do think Belichick seems like the kind of guy who would do anything he thought he could get away with to win. I can't help it. (He also dresses like a hobo, but that's neither here nor there.)
And I'm happy for Eli, who's been answering questions about his older brother for too long, and been dealing with the cruel New York press for long enough. ("So Eli, you just won the NFC championship. How does it feel to know your brother didn't make it?" Sam and I seriously heard that question asked of him.) I like an underdog, and Manning, with his puppy-dog eyes and 10-year old looks was a great underdog to root for. And who wasn't touched by the shots of Peyton going crazy rooting for his baby bro? The whole thing was sigh-worthy, whereas the saga of the man across the field, Mr. Brady, seems sordid and icky.
That's all I've got about the game, but I would also like to point out that Mother Nature has some sick sense of humor, sending us a blizzard in the third quarter of a very close game (thus stopping our attempts to leave early), and making our normal hour and five trip take a long two hours in sloppy snowy conditions. As good as the football game was, if I woulda known it woulda been like that, I don't know that I'd have left my house to watch the game on a bigger TV. Although I love watching football with my mom and the food was delish. Even so, that snow? Sucked the fun out of the night by the time we got home. I was so tired I just fell into bed. And the residual effects from the lack of sleep are making themselves felt right this minute, as I have to keep convincing myself to stay up another 15 minutes, and then another.
Still. Yay Giants!
