Maybe not the best. But here is a list of things that are really floating my boat right now.
- I put 3/4 of a tank of gas in my new car yesterday. It cost me $14. That's about 6 gallons. I drove almost 300 miles on that previous 6 gallons. Pretty good gas mileage, eh? Seriously, though, I saw the total ($14) on the gas pump and started to laugh. Laugh. Out loud. Standing at a gas pump. 3/4 of a tank in the beemer? At least $30, depending on gas prices.
- Also, pertaining to the new car. The mp3 hook-up thingy is FANTASTIC. I had a TransPod before I had this car, and it worked very well. Better than any other "through the radio" iPod accessory. But the mp3 in? Blows the TransPod away. So cool. Now I need to decide if I can afford to have an iPod hook-up put into my car. It's available, and it's oh-so-tempting. But it also costs money, and I have a car payment now.
- Having houseguests. It's gonna be great, because it means I have a small reprieve from the diet. We're going to Frontera Grill, Pizza DOC, Fogo de Chao and probably maybe one deep-dish pizza place. Also, we'll most likely go for cheap Mexican the first night they get in. Oh. And I like the people who are coming too.
Now, some ultra-fun links.
- Have you looked at the iPhone? Have you? Do you want it yet? Well, if not, consider making your own: an iPhone .pdf cut-out pattern. I'm going to make S print out two of these, and then we'll be the biggest losers in the world, but at least we'll be having fun. (via Boing Boing)
And all the rest of these links are via Kottke. If you don't read kottke, what are you thinking?
- Holy crap, this made me laugh out loud at my desk. It's a vivid re-imagining of the original Star Wars movies taking the newer ones into account. Whoever wrote this thing is absolutely brilliant. Because I've done some amateur thinking into the whole theory of how the six films work together, but shit. This is so over the top it's amazing.
- Some guy made an annual report out of his year. I love it. I don't know the guy, and I have no clue why he would spend time compiling all this data, but it's the kind of thing I would do if I were dedicated enough. In fact, the idea appeals to me immensely, but I can't figure out how I would organize all that raw data. The only thing that struck me about the report is his list of books read, and how short it is. My annual report would have 10 pages of books. That's a bit much; then again, my annual report would have zero bars in it, and very few alcoholic drinks.
- And actually, this is a kottke thing, this one. Kottke took some cardboard, Apple's stated dimensions, and made himself a mock iPhone. Then he took every gadget he could get his hands on and compared them. More iPhone mania.
- Art Garfunkel is a weird, weird guy. Maybe you already knew that. But I didn't. So exploring his website was very interesting. For instance, he's kept a list of every book he's read for almost 40 years. Now, that's about 1000 books. I don't mean to keep harping on this, but my list is already 500 some books long, and we're talking two years, three months of reading. Then again, Garfunkel seems to be reading some heavy, heavy books. He did read, I was interested to see, the Geoff Emerick Beatles book I was talking about a week ago. Also, he's got a list of his top 50 songs, and his first song of all time is "Here, There and Everywhere". I mean, it's a good song, but it's a headscratcher, because it's not the best Beatles song, not by far.
Anyway, that's it. There's tons more that I've found interesting in the past few days, but those are the ones that immediately came to mind. If you're interested, I always read the aforementioned Kottke and BoingBoing, because those sites always provide interesting hyperlinkage. A vast majority of what I look at on the Internet that isn't blogs comes from those two sites. Great way to kill time at work.
