I am having a devil of a time finding something to read. I've just abandoned another book, the fourth in six days. Two I abandoned within four or five pages of starting, simply because I knew that I could NOT finish either one. Sadly, they were both for my book group, which means that I absolutely have to finish the third one, or I'm in trouble. The other two were versions of lives--one an autobiography, and one a biography--and about 50 pages into the one I quit today, I decided I hated the person I was reading about, and gave it up. Since November 12th, I've finished 2.5 books, which is pathetic and sad, especially considering I've had ample time to read and finish books. After all, all I do at work all day is read.
I'm not sure what precisely will get me reading, because at home, I just stare balefully at my bookcase full of unread books. It's as if I don't want to read, and I'm trying to force it. I'm trying to force it because I cannot think of something else to do with the long gaping day in front of me. I've even purchased a few books in the past few days (living off of Tower's misfortune, to be honest. Everything in the store 40-60% off.), and the one I abandoned today was one of those new pick-ups, and also a book I'd had on my wishlist forever. Too bad I had to buy the book to figure out that I hated it.
But there must be something out there for me to read. The perfect book to rekindle reading lust exists, and it might even be on my bookshelves. It's like a puzzle, picking out the perfect book.
Anyway, moving on to book two of the day. Let's hope I don't abandon this one.
I haven't read it yet, but you might want to try reading Bloodring by Faith Hunter. It's the first in a new series, and it received Kim Harrison's seal of approval. She's even pimping it on her homepage!
