That's right, me and the rice-a-roni, we're done. Too bad all I wanted for dinner was a big steaming plate of said rice product (chicken flavor, if you're curious), and too bad I ended up eating tuna on ritz crackers instead. Yes, I like rice-a-roni. It reminds me of childhood, of baked chicken breasts and legs and family dinners. It's processed comfort food.
It's PROCESSED comfort food with MSG in it. That's right, my arch-nemesis. I happened to glance over at the box in the waiting to boil phase of the cooking, and decided to read exactly which chemicals I was ingesting today, and the answer ended up being that I wouldn't be ingesting any chemicals tonight. I understand that MSG is nothing but a flavor-enhancer, and that many cultures use it in the same way they would any spice. Doesn't it tickle the umami tastebuds? I also know that many people claim to have problems with it, and just as many people are happy to say that it's all in our heads. In my case, yes, yes it is all in my head. I really do get migraines. And when you're eating different foods every day, and the only common ingredient in them is msg, and you're getting migraines every day, well....you can see why I might suspect it's the msg. And the fact that cutting the msg out cut the migraines out is also a little fishy.
But the point is, why? Why spoil such a wonderful processed food with such an evil ingredient? It means I can never eat rice-a-roni again, which is horribly sad. (It's also horribly sad that I consider it horribly sad.) I LIKE rice-a-roni, dammit, and it would have been a good, quick, one dish winter dinner. But nope.
That's it. Rice-a-roni and I, we're in a fight.
