Not really, since I've already said forty million times in the blog, but I'm going to say it once more. And I'll keep saying it, I guess, until Americans get their heads out of their asses and realize that love is love is love.
Because of course, the stupid amendment to ban marriage equality (because let's not call it a ban on gay marriage--let's call it what it is: an amendment to promote marriage inequality) failed this morning, as they knew it would. Of course, the positive spin on the situation, according to the bigots in the government, is that the anti-gay side gained some votes, which means the position is gaining ground. According to them. I read something online--can't remember where, think it was the Tribune--and a passer-by, interviewed by a reporter, said that he did support marriage equality, and said that in twenty years, we're going to be looking at this and thinking, how stupid. Of course, some of us think "How stupid!" every time one of those fundies brings up the issue, because frankly, I'm more concerned about taxes and war and health insurance and so on and so forth.
Let's face it. This is a politcal ploy, an attempt to pull conservative voters to the polls, and distract them from the fact that this government is a farce of a conservative government. To distract them from the fact that Georgie wants to be king, and can't run the country, to boot. All I can think right now is that those assholes must think we're stupid. They must think we're blind and stupid and too preoccupied with whatever to see what they're doing. But I think they're in for a surprise.
Amen... I mean, why should the government focus on trivial things such as war, and the well-being of the country's citizens (i.e. health insurance, education, etc.), when there are people out there loving each other and trying to get married to each other!! The nerve!

You are giving the politicians too much credit. It is they who are the stupids ones. They don't know what to think. Like you, I am embarrassed and pissed off that the real challenges in the this country are not being dealt with while our "leaders" try to protect the sanctity of marriage. Gimme a fuckin' break. Protect our future by educating our children, feeding the hungry, working on better health care for everyone, developing alternative fuel solutions and helping the less fortunate be more fortunate. Oh yeah, work on getting our fighting men and women out of harms way sometime in our lifetimes (that would be protecting the sanctity of life).
Our government is off the tracks...

I can't even believe that this "issue" is an issue at all. I mean, the stupidity of it all is amazing. There are truly bad people roaming the streets, pedophiles wandering free, people are going without basic medical care, and our children are quickly becoming the most poorly educated in the world, but yes, let's focus on how terrible it is for two people to attempt to forge a life together based on love. Clearly, the problems in this country are caused by too much love. I mean, "the sanctity of marriage"?!?!? Have you seen the divorce rate? Straight people are fucking it up all over the place, I see no harm in letting everyone give it a shot. Why is this an issue? How is the person I choose to love any of the government's damn business?
Sorry for the rant. I get so fired up on this issue, I feel like grabbing whoever is pushing it by the throat and shaking them until they get some damn sense.
