Because these people did it, I'm going to. Actually, I think it's kind of a cool meme.
I'm a movie cryer. I mean, I'll cry at just about anything. So this list will have to be selective. I don't even know if I can think of all the movies that make me cry, but I'll try.
The end of Rudy, where Rudy is lifted up on the shoulders of his Notre Dame teammates.
It's a sobfest of unheralded proportions during the scene in A Beautiful Mind when John Nash goes into the faculty dining room and everyone presents him with their pens.
Oh God, the scene in Remember the Titans when the football player gets in a crash, and then the reactions of his teammates and coach.
In Four Weddings and A Funeral, at the funeral, when the WH Auden poem is read. I love Auden, and it's just so damn sad.
When the English soldiers kill William Wallace's wife in Braveheart.
At the end of The Joy Luck Club, when June is reunited with her half-sisters. The voice over is just heart-wrenching. (The book is similarly sad/happy; one of my favorites. I love the mother/daughter complexities.)
The Color Purple. Celie meets her children for the first time, and sees her sister for the first time in 30 years. Whoopi Goldberg is just ridiculously good. (Like Joy Luck, the book is similarly touching. Great book; one of my favorite things to tell myself comes from it: "Sometimes it just bes that way.")
Hmmm. That's it for now. I can remember a time in the not distant past when I sat in a movie theater SOBBING while S tried to make me feel better, but I cannot for the life of me remember the damn movie. Maybe Finding Neverland, but I'm not sure that's it. I do know that the crying scene happened on the airplane on the way back from Oregon, when I finished HP6. Cried like a baby.
