Just because I feel like it, and dammit, this is my blog and I can do what I want.
- Death Cab for Cutie, Transatlantacism. When the election was over, I found the only music I could tolerate was the Ben Folds Five Messner album, and this. My favorite song switches every couple of months; right now it's "Tiny Vessels" but that will likely change any minute now. We saw Death Cab open for PJ on the Vote for Change tour, and my sister and I are gonna go to Lollapalooza to see Death Cab (among other bands).
- Ryan Adams and the Cardinals, Cold Roses. I feel like Ryan Adams is too talented for his own good. This album is alternately fantastic and weird. The single off of it is pretty damn fantastic. It's nothing like his last few, which is good and bad, since I pretty much loved Gold as much as you can love a CD.
- Ben Folds, Songs for Silverman. Do I have to talk about this album again? I cannot get enough of it. In fact, I so much cannot get enough of it that we're going to see Ben yet again in August (at Ravinia, if you're interested, friends).
- Kathleen Edwards, Back to Me. I loved Kathleen's last album, Failer. I might be the only person in the world who did, but that album convinced me to buy this one, and this one is un-fucking-believeable. I LOVE it. Every song is just so damn good. Her voice, too, is really, really unique and (I think) beautiful. This CD, incidentally, got kicked around the apt. for a few weeks (after S copied it), and I was sincerely unhappy that I couldn't find it, because it's just too good to lose.
- Paul McCartney, Back in the US. Cheesy, right? But I'm discovering that all of the overdone Macca/Wings shit isn't quite to my taste. I really like the live versions of his old songs. I can't help it. "Band on the Run" live makes me sing my head off.
- Bjork, Greatest Hits. I'm back on the Bjork train again. Man, she writes good songs. (Actually, the Death Cab cover of "All is Full of Love" is on my copy of Transatlantacism. The Death Cab cover is really good, so if you don't have it, seek it out.) I feel insatiable when it comes to Bjork. Sorta like with Ben Folds.
- Arcade Fire, Funeral. It's not getting old, not yet. Kate and I will also see Arcade Fire at Lollapalooza, which she will hate. I suppose it's up in the air as to whether I will like them live as well.
- The Killers, Hot Fuss. Supposedly, I didn't like this when S brought it home. That may well be, as I'm notoriously hard to introduce new music to. However, now I like it. Maybe not as much as 1-5 on this list, but still. I listen to it enough that you can say that I'm listening constantly. Kate and I will also see the Killers at Lollapalooza
I really liked Failer; I'll have to hear the new one.
Also, you should try to find the Helmet cover of "Army of Me"... it's excellent.
