Today, when I got home from class, S had left a stickie on my computer to watch Ellen's monologue.
So I watched it, and guess what? Ellen's monologue was about librarians! At first I was really excited, but in truth the monologue was a trifle trite, and not so complimentary. (Though I'm sure Ellen loves libraries.) Basically, Ellen turned "SHHHHHH!" into a four-minute monologue. But no complaints. Any press is good press, right?
And, I wouldn't have mentioned that, but look at this post. Dan Renzi wrote a post about libraries too. He made some really good points about the Patriot Act, and it just seems fortuitous that he and Ellen should speak of libraries on the same day. People really aren't talking about libraries much anymore except to say that the Internet is killing them. Which is totally not true, just in case you thought that. And I love the internet, so if anything I'm biased towards it. But libraries are important, and the more the word gets out.....
And one last thing. If you've never seen the movie "Party Girl", you should watch it. It's HORRIBLE. Completely atrocious. But in that "I absolutely love this atrocious movie" kind of a way. And, Parker Posey wants to be a librarian in it. Very cool. There's even sex in a library in the movie. WHICH I DO NOT CONDONE, OKAY? I thought I owned it. But maybe I'm wrong, because I don't see it over on our DVD rack. Too bad, because I would loan it to you if I had it.
